Amid many societal challenges and growing geopolitical tensions, Europe is navigating increasingly uncertain waters. The upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) is more than a budget; it’s a lighthouse that helps Europe set its course. But even the brightest lighthouse cannot guide a ship through stormy seas alone. Only sustained investments in knowledge, research, education, and innovation can turn turbulent waters into navigable ones. Join us on 18 November 2026 from 16:00 to 19:30 for the Neth-ER Annual Network Conference at the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and Arts in Brussels.
Europe is facing a growing number of challenges. In uncertain times, strong investments in knowledge, education, research and innovation are essential to help the EU navigate global tensions and strengthen its strategic relevance and autonomy. This places more importance on the negotiations for the next MFF. The outcome will shape Europe’s capacity to educate, research and innovate in the years to come. This raises key questions: How can Europe become more strategically relevant and autonomous? And what should the priorities be in the next Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe programmes? Join us at the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Sciences and Arts in Brussels on 18 November 2026 for the Neth-ER Annual Network Conference.
It is early 2007. In Brussels, Neth-ER is preparing for its official opening at the Concert Noble. A canvas reads: “To set your European course.” A lighthouse symbolises Neth-ER’s mission: guiding Dutch education and research institutions through European policy waters. Nearly twenty years later, that mission is more relevant than ever. With a formal mandate from the Dutch government, Neth-ER’s role and influence in Brussels have grown steadily. Through targeted advocacy and campaigns such as ‘Double Knowledge’, Neth-ER has strengthened its voice in EU policymaking and reinforced the importance of sustained investment in knowledge, research, education, and innovation. On 18 November 2026, Neth-ER celebrates its 20-year anniversary.

Note: Neth-ER was founded in 2006, and had its grand opening in February 2007.
Each year, the Netherlands house for Education and Research (Neth-ER) organises a Network Conference in Brussels, bringing together key players of the knowledge sector and EU policy field. Last year’s edition featured contributions from, among others, Prof. Dr. Robbert Dijkgraaf and Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, member of the cabinet of Executive Vice-President Roxana Mînzatu.
